Graduate Certificate - Project Management

The Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department's Graduate Certificate Program in Project Management offers an opportunity for professionals to expand their knowledge through a flexible graduate education program. The distance education program is designed to fit around the work, travel and family demands of the busy technical professional. The certificate provides a solid foundation in the methods and practices of project management and provides information that can be immediately applied to managing projects in the work place. The certificate consists of four courses described below--three in project management and one in economic analysis. The department is designated by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Global Registered Education Provider.

Engineering Management 361:  Project Management
Organization structure and staffing, motivation, authority and influence, conflict management, project planning, network systems, pricing, estimating, and cost control, proposal preparation, project information systems; normally includes a semester group project.

Engineering Management 458:  Case Studies in Project Management
Includes the main components of the Project Management Institute (PMI) Body of Knowledge; case studies in project management including project implementation, organizational structures, project estimating, project scheduling, project risk management and conflict management.

Engineering Management 461:  Global Project Management
In depth and advanced topics in project management including project management methodologies, strategic planning for excellence, project portfolio management, integrated processes, culture, and behavioral excellence; includes lectures by international project management professionals.

Engineering Management 308:  Economic Decision Analysis
Comprehensive treatment of engineering economy including effects of taxation and inflation; sensitivity analysis; decisions with risk and uncertainty; decision trees and expected value, normally includes solutions on personal computer and student problem report.

Admission
The Project Management Certificate Program is open to all persons holding a technical B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree and who have a minimum of 12-months of professional employment experience or are currently accepted into a graduate degree program at Missouri S&T. All candidates are expected to meet admission standards applicable to the Engineering Management graduate degree.

Once admitted to the program, the student must take the four designated courses. In order to receive a Graduate Certificate, the student must have an average cumulative grade point of 3.0 or better in the certificate courses. Once admitted into the program, a student will be given three years to complete the program.

Students admitted to the Certificate Program will have non-degree graduate status but will earn graduate credit for the courses they complete. If the four-course sequence is completed with a grade of "B� or better in each of the courses, they will be admitted to the appropriate M.S. program if they apply. The Certificate course taken by students admitted to the M.S. program will count towards their master's degree. Students who do not have all of the prerequisite courses necessary to take the courses in the Certificate Program will be allowed to take "bridge� courses at either the graduate or undergraduate level to prepare for the formal Certificate courses.
